2020 Shabbos Project

Shabbat is an age-old holiday that has bound the Jewish people together for generations.  To create a sense of renewal within the community, the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Warren Goldstein, in 2013 offered a simple solution: Jews from all walks of life – across the spectrum of religious affiliation, young and old, and from all corners of the world – come together to celebrate this day of rest.

The initiative was such a runaway success that communities around the world began calling the rabbi asking to participate the following year, 2014.  And thus The Shabbat Project was born.

Areyvut was pleased to take the lead in coordinating events in Bergen County that first year including a Challah Bake and CommUNITY Concert after Shabbat.  The video for that Challah Bake is at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89qYpz3DW7k and we acknowledge and thank those agencies that has worked since that time to build on that initial success and plan local events that have empowered and impacted hundreds and thousands.

Since the first project’s inception, thousands of events have been celebrated in more than 1,600 cities around the world.  Endless celebrities have jumped on board to promote this grassroots movement.  And it continues to grow.

The Shabbat Project is about creating a new Jewish future together.

While 2020 presents its share of challenges, the show and the Shabbos Project must go on.  For resources, events and lots more information, please visit https://www.theshabbosproject.org/ and tell them that Areyvut sent you.
