Description of Organization:

The Jewish Relief Agency is a dynamic, volunteer-driven organization whose goal is to help families in need. Founded in 2000, JRA has been bringing families and individuals together each month in a spirit of community and repairing the world. Through the efforts of JRA’s community of more than 10,500 volunteers, we provide monthly food relief packages to over 3,200 low-income families throughout the Greater Philadelphia area. In addition, our volunteers also help with “service gigs,” such as driving seniors to doctors’ appointments and the grocery store, making small but needed home repairs, and building connections with our clients through friendly visits.

Bnai Mitzvah Projects or Volunteer Opportunities offered by the organization for children ages 11 - 13:

One Sunday each month, JRA holds a food distribution at our Northeast Philadelphia warehouse. Between 750 and 1,200 volunteers work together to pack and deliver boxes of kosher food and fresh produce into the homes of our recipient families. In addition, volunteers also provide services such as giving seniors and the disabled rides to the doctor and grocery store, making friendly visits to isolated members of the community, and much more.
