Description of Organization:

Camp Sunshine provides retreats combining respite, recreation and support, while enabling hope and promoting joy, for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families through the various stages of a child’s illness. Camp Sunshine has the distinction of having been designed to serve the entire family in a retreat model. The program is offered year round and is free of charge to families and includes; on-site medical support, meals, lodging, activities, entertainment, etc. Travel assistance is also available.

Bnai Mitzvah Projects or Volunteer Opportunities offered by the organization for children ages 11 - 13:

Volunteer opportunities are available in the following areas during Camp Sessions: Activities Counselors – various groups (Nursery, Tot Lot, 6-8 group, 9-12 group, Teen group, Parent’s group), Arts & Crafts Counselors, Lifeguards (certification required), Maintenance, Landscaping/Gardening, Waterfront personnel, Food Service, Drivers (drivers must be at least 21 years of age), etc.

Outside of camp sessions volunteer opportunities include: Painting, weeding, mulching, camp beautification, etc.

Minimum Age to Volunteer:

16 years old as a commuter; 18 years old to stay onsite. Sixteen year old can stay onsite if accompanied by a volunteering chaperone 21 years of age or older.
