Areyvut was founded in 2002 with a clear and urgent mission: to strengthen the core Jewish values of chesed (kindness), tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (social action) in contemporary Jewish life, and to spark in our youth a lifelong passion for giving, service and responsibility. These values guide everything we do — every program, every resource, every act of support for individuals and communities.
Since October 7, we have doubled down on our commitment to bring more light, connection and responsibility into the world. During an extraordinarily challenging period for the Jewish people, Areyvut has expanded its efforts to strengthen morale, enhance Jewish pride and create meaningful, accessible opportunities for people of all ages to take action.
Our work has reached families, schools, synagogues, camps, businesses and entire communities across the United States and in Israel. With your help, we can continue to meet the moment with purpose and impact.
In partnership with two organizations, we have now completed five rounds of Shuk to the Core, connecting more than 75 Israeli artisans with communities across the United States. This fall alone, Round 4 took place in California, and Round 5 brought vendor fairs to Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania — generating more than $650,000 in sales this season.
Across all rounds, Shuk to the Core has now generated more than $2.3 million in direct revenue, providing ongoing, meaningful support to over 1,000 Israelis and their families whose livelihoods have been impacted since October 7.
Since October 7, 2023, Areyvut has facilitated over 9,000 volunteer hours in Israel from participants representing 10 countries. Volunteers assisted with agriculture, food rescue, packing and delivering supplies, and supporting displaced families and soldiers. These efforts continue to meet real needs on the ground during a time of crisis.
Areyvut continues to develop and distribute open-access, practical tools that translate Jewish values into daily action. This includes our widely used A Kindness a Day Calendar (reaching over 40,000 annually), the distribution of more than 200,000 You Matter cards this year, and a broad range of parsha and holiday infographics that help families create meaningful conversations and memorable value-driven moments.
This year, we delivered hands-on chesed experiences across the Jewish world, including:
• Family volunteer opportunities
• Schoolwide chesed days and interactive workshops
• Six presentations in one day to 320 students, grades 1–12
• Better Together intergenerational programming
• A CommUNITY Chesed Fair engaging youth, retirees and families
We continue to partner with schools, synagogues, camps and businesses to help them think more strategically about kindness-related programming. Through consulting, workshops and customized planning, Areyvut helps organizations deepen their impact and authentically infuse kindness into their culture.
