After a great day Mitzvah Clowning in conjunction with UJANNJ’s Mitzvah Day and the Global Day of Jewish Learning I got a call tonight from a woman in Monsey. Here is the story:
She runs a school for high school girls who have nowhere else to go. These girls have been kicked out of their high schools and/or the other schools cannot handle their issues. These girls are not on drugs and do not have problems with alcohol but just need a different type of education than what they were getting. This woman and her husband run the school and in essence absorb all of the costs. She heard about Areyvut’s Mitzvah Clown program and thinks it would be a great fit for the girls. Mitzvah Clowning would give them a skill that they can use on a regular basis and a positive way to express themselves and their Judaism. The issue is that she has no funding to support this program. Here is where you come in.
Every time we do a Mitzvah Clown training each participant gets a clown kit that includes a mirror, clown make-up, a balloon pump and everything they need for the training and future clowning. The clown kit costs us $36 each. We also want to provide them with clown outfits, want to facilitate regular visits to senior centers and give them balloons, those big funny glasses or something else that they can bring and give to the seniors every month. They have 7 girls and for $700 (that is Areyvut’s cost for the supplies, we will absorb our costs for the training, transportation, administration of the program) you can bring this program to fruition. That’s right. It only costs $700 to train these girls, give them a kit, a clown outfit and the supplies for regular visits. That is an awesome investment at any time and especially in today’s market as this yields immediate fruit and is truly the gift that keeps on giving.
We hope to have the program up and running before Chanukah but can only do so with your support.
