An Important Reminder

Posted on February 4, 2011

On January 12, 2010 a catastrophic earthquake hit Haiti killing more than 300,000, injuring more than 200,000 and close to 1,000,000 were homeless. Recently on the one year anniversary and during that week people throughout the world and the news focused on Haiti, highlighted what has taken place since the earthquake and what still needs to take place. Once the anniversary passes and the news no longer covers it we tend to forget and move on with our lives. I thought I would share some videos and resources that remind all of us about what took place and provide ways to still help those in need.

The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee has a video that highlights their role in Haiti.

The American Jewish World Service has a section devoted to Haiti where they have videos, information about what they have done and how you can still help.

Jacob Richman has a variety of meaningful and powerful videos that illustrate the role that Israel played in helping Haiti in its time of need. These videos can be used to teach the concept of tikkun olam and/or the idea of being a light onto the nations.
