Something to Think About Before Rosh Hashana

Posted on September 11, 2012

In one of his posts, Yossi Prager discusses the significance of giving, not only for the person who receives the giving, but for the person who does the giving as well.  According to Maimonides, it is better to give $1 to 1,000 people instead of $1,000 to one person, as giving to 1,000 people will transform the giver into a more giving person.  Prager infers from Maimonides’ statement that “character traits develop through small, consistent steps, not grand actions.”  Before Rosh Hashana, this is a good time to think about our giving.  What do we do to help others and develop our own character traits in a positive way?  Just some food for thought.
