Bar Mitzvah Project Brings Supplies to Soldiers

Posted on October 29, 2012

Matt Shafer of East Brunswick, NJ decided to do a mitzvah project on the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah.  He ordered and sold wristbands that said “Peace 2012” and with that he raised $5,000!  Matt used this money to purchase 250 “shlukers,” which are water backpacks for soldiers in the Israeli army.  These have a hose attachment to make it easier for the soldiers to stay hydrated.  In addition to raising the money for the shlukers, Matt also personally delivered them to the soldiers and was able to see the results of his labors.  The soldiers were apparently so appreciative and touched by his amazing act of kindness.  It is really an incredible idea; to start off this new phase in one’s life by undertaking a project that has a powerful impact on others.  Great job to Matt and all who decide to partake in this endeavor.
