Israeli vendor market at Federation CJA March 11

The Israeli vendor market called Shuk to the Core will be at Federation CJA at 5151 Côte Ste. Catherine Road from 4 to 8 p.m. March 11, the organization announced.

Shuk to the Core is a travelling market of Israeli artists and merchants from the southern part of the country who set up tables at different locations, selling their products to help provide for their families.

They are travelling to Montreal and Toronto, and were in the U.S. Northeast late last year, including New York and New Jersey.

The items being sold include art, Judaica, jewellery, kippot, crafts and literature.

A story on The Jewish Link website points out that there was a drop in business at Israeli establishments since the Oct. 7 Hamas terrorist attack, including less tourists and regular customers. This prompted Stuart Katz of Lynbrook, New York and Daniel Rothner of Teaneck, and their organizations, Areyvut, TAL Tours and Mental Health First Aid Israel, to launch the initiative.

"In less than three weeks they had enlisted 32 Israeli vendors and organized Israeli vendor fairs in nine cities in the metropolitan New York area, beginning on Nov. 9 and continuing through Nov 19," the article explains.

The event co-chairs are Ronit Amsel Jacobson, Rachel Goodman Aspler and Chaya Lieberman. Donations at the door of the event "will go directly to the vendors to cover travel expenses," says Federation CJA.
