'Mitzvah Clowns' from Scotch Plains visit Sunrise in Westfield

Clowns-11-18.jpgSEND IN THE CLOWNS—Sixth- and seventh-graders from Congregation Beth Israel in Scotch Plains dressed up as clowns to entertain residents of Sunrise Assisted Living in Westfield. The children had at-tended a half-day training workshop at the synagogue earlier that day to learn how to apply face makeup, create balloon figures, and engage an audience. These “Mitzvah Clowns” (clowns who perform good deeds or “mitzvahs”) are scheduled to visit a new site each month, including nursing homes, hospitals, and centers for ill or special needs children. Pictured are (from left, back) Bruce “Professor Zee” Zakarin; Josh Axelrod; David Lange; Michael Lange; Fallon Goldberg; Jaime Harris; Molly Skowron; Alexis Karpf; Joel ”Big Daddy” Horowitz (front) Matthew Garber; Liza Kussner; Sarah Barash; Robin “Rainbow Clown” Romisher-Voeltzel.
