Description of Organization:

Gift of Life facilitates bone marrow, blood stem cell, and cord blood transplants for children and adults suffering from life-threatening illnesses. Since tissue type is inherited, a patient’s best chance of finding a genetic match lies with donors of similar ethnicity. Gift of Life strives to increase the representation of Jewish donors in the registry in order to overcome the devastating effects of the Holocaust, which severed bloodlines and made the donor search particularly difficult for Jewish patients needing transplants.

Here are just a few ideas of activities that can be done to help further Gift of Life’s mission:

  • Work with parents and adults in the community to coordinate a donor recruitment drive in your community and/or at your bar/bat mitzvah party.
  • Hold a fundraising event – your own original idea – benefiting Gift of Life. Examples:
    • Organize a bake sale
    • Run a race raising funds for Gift of Life
    • Run a face painting booth at your synagogue’s Purim Carnival
    • Run a 3 on 3 basketball tournament
    • Create tzedakah boxes, where donations go to Gift of Life
    • Design cards for our life-saving donors on their donation days
    • Sell Mishloach Manot baskets
  • Collect items (or raise funds to purchase items) to comfort donors during their collections, such as blankets, DVDs, portable DVD players, books on tape, etc.

** With a little creativity, there is no limit to how you can help Gift of Life! **
